Understanding FIV
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a slow-acting virus that affects a cat’s immune system, making them more vulnerable to infections over time. However, FIV is not a death sentence—many FIV+ cats live long, healthy lives with proper care. Unfortunately, due to misconceptions about FIV, these cats often stay in the Village much longer before finding homes.
How is FIV Spread?
FIV is primarily spread through deep bite wounds, usually from territorial fights between outdoor cats. It is not easily transmitted through casual contact like grooming, sharing food and water bowls, or playing. Because of this, FIV+ cats can often live safely with non-FIV cats in calm households.

Caring for an FIV+ Cat
FIV+ cats are just as loving and deserving of homes as any other cat. If you’re considering adopting, don’t let the diagnosis scare you—these wonderful cats will reward you with years of companionship and love!
